Non aqueous vehicles

The non-aqueous solvents or a mixed aqueous-non aqueous solvent system may be required to stabilize drugs such as the barbiturates, which are readily hydrolyzed by water or to improve solubility. The non aqueous solvents must be carefully screened and tested to ensure that they exhibit no pharmacological action, not toxicity, non-irritating, compatibility and stability with all ingredients of a formulation.
