It is essential that production problems be communicated quickly for corrective action. To be effective, a manager needs information necessary to carry out managerial functions and activities.
COMMUNICATION FLOW IN THE ORGANIZATION
DOWNWARD COMMUNICATION: From higher-level authorities to lower level is a time consuming process and feedback system is needed to ensure that information was received as intended by sender.
UPWARD COMMUNICATION: From lower levels to the boss. Upper management needs to know specially about production performance, marketing information, and financial data; what lower level employees are thinking and so on. It is necessary for control purposes.
CROSSWISE COMMUNICATION: Horizontal flow of information between people on the same management level.
Diagonal flow of information between persons at different levels who have no direct reporting relationship. This kind of communication is used to speed information flow, improve understanding, and to co-ordinate efforts to achieve goal.
